It wasn’t until 1977 that women came on the board of the Colorado Chautauqua Association. The women chosen were:
Katherine Welch, former Parks & Rec Board member; Sadie Walton, originator of Womenpower, later the Women’s Resource Center; Helen Wingfield, longtime Boulder resident and wife of Judge John Lindsey Wingfield and Sharon Purvis, co-director of Boulder Valley Clinic, now the Boulder Valley Women’s Health Center.
Currently, the executive director is a woman, Shelly Benford, the board president is a woman, Cindy Schmidt, and 10 out of the 15 board members are women.
