Kicking off Historic Boulder’s 50 Years of Preservation Celebration

Holiday Tour 2021 – Saturday December 4th

50 Years ago, almost to the day, a group of citizens met on Joyce Davies’ birthday to organize to save several historic buildings in town which were threatened with demolition. One of these buildings was the Highland School on 885 Arapahoe Avenue. These citizens chartered a non-profit, created an investment pool (some of them mortgaged their own homes to contribute) and Historic Boulder, Inc. purchased the building from the school district in late 1972 – our first save. They soon sold the building to Sina Simantob whose amazing stewardship of the Highland City Club continues to this day.

Historic Boulder’s most recent save is the Hannah Barker House, only a few steps away from the Highland City Club. Also saved from almost certain demolition, Historic Boulder took ownership and obtained State Historic Fund grants to bring the building to the point where it could be sold in 2015 to its current owners as a private residence.

This year, join us on Saturday December 4th as we celebrate of 50th year of preserving places that matter by touring the inside of the Highland City Club and the Hannah Barker House!
