Historic Boulder’s 37th Annual Homes for the Holidays Tour: December 2nd and 3rd, 2023
Historic Boulder is excited to present its 37th annual Homes for the Holidays Tour, the weekend of December 2nd, 2023. Through the years, this enchanting experience has taken us through a selection of meticulously decorated historical homes, where creativity, tradition, and holiday spirit come together to create a truly magical atmosphere. The Homes for the Holidays tours allow event goers to explore the architectural marvels, exquisite craftsmanship, and captivating stories that reside within Boulder’s earliest homes. This year, the tour will take us on an educational journey that will explore transformed carriage houses or Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) in the Mapleton and Whittier neighborhoods of Boulder.
An important part of preservation is rehabilitation or ‘adaptive reuse’; using a historic property in a new way. The conversion of carriage houses into modern homes breathes new life into neglected structures while preserving architectural heritage. Through adaptive reuse, homeowners can enjoy the benefits of sustainable living, flexible design possibilities, and the allure of urban surroundings. By embracing the revitalization of carriage houses, we create a bridge between the past and the present, ensuring that their legacy endures for generations to come. ADUs have a significant history in Boulder. The city has recognized the potential of ADUs as a way to address housing needs and increase housing options within the community.
