Historic Boulder Inc. will lead a guided tour of a neighborhood of great modern homes on Saturday May 24th from 9:30 to 11:00 am.
Boulder is known as a hotbed of Mid-Century Modern architecture. Scientists and university professors were the early adopters of modern architecture for their homes. The highest concentration of these people occurred west of the CU campus at the base of Flagstaff mountain. Their buildings are among the most innovative in the city. The influence has been felt for 75 years, helping to create the environment that has supported the emergence of Boulder as one of the most progressive communities in the nation.
Architect Leonard Segel is the Executive Director of Historic Boulder. He is a founding board member of the Modern Architecture Preservation League of Colorado, coauthor of “Historic Context and Survey of Modern Architecture in Boulder,” and founding board member of the Colorado Chapter of DOCOMOMO. Just for fun he likes to look at and talk about great design.
